A group of UK scientists have created a new device that can detect card counting in real time. According to the New Scientist magazine, card counting will soon be a thing of the past now that the new card counter detector has been created. It is not illegal to count cards in any casino but if card counters are detected by staff of the casino they can be asked to leave the casino. Casinos may also give information about card counters to other local casinos.
The Dundee University developed the new device. It uses a stereo camera to record the table activities and then the video is analyzed by a computer which counts the cards itself. The computer knows when the deck is hot.
The camera will determine the size of the bet by analyzing the chips. The camera will then detect any changes in betting patterns. The card deck and the manner of betting will be analyzed simultaneously and the new system needs only twenty hands to determine if card counting is taking place. If the machine detects the card counting it will then send a message to the staff of the casino and they will do what they feel necessary.
