Casinos have to deal with many problems when it comes to gamblers but one main problem is the repayment of debts. Casinos offer many gamblers a credit so they can continue to play their favorite games when they run out of cash. Players are borrowing money from the casino and they will have to pay it back. However, many times, high rollers try to skip out on the debt they owe. Jerry Powers are an executive at Plum TV and he recently settled a debt with a casino in Connecticut after he did not pay what he owed. Powers had borrowed $1.2 million to continuing playing blackjack, his game of choice. The casino decided to sue Powers after he failed to pay his debt. Powers fought back stating that the casino had taken advantage of him by allowing him to take out such a large advance of cash to play the game. He stated he was drunk and should not have been given such a large credit. Despite his feelings in the
case, Powers was vetoed by the judge and ordered to pay for his losses.
Powers was not only being sued by a casino in Connecticut but also by a casino in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Supposedly, Powers owed the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City a million dollars and it has not been released what he owed to the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
It has not been released as to exactly why Powers owed so much money to so many casinos. We do know that a spokesman for Powers recently stated that the large losses over blackjack and other games are from a ‘dark period’ in Powers life which happened two years ago when he was suffering from substance abuse.
