Gamblers visiting South Africa as well as those living there will be happy to hear that the country will soon be offering blackjack as well as other casino games online. MPs of South Africa have now found out that the review commission has recommended that the country needs to regulate, license and tax online casino games in the country. The review showed that prohibition of the online gambling games was not working. Casino Gambling News reported on the story as well and they found that it was not surprising that the committee found that online gambling needed to be regulated, licensed and taxed. Mr. Louw a gambling commissioner and warrior chief commented:
“The big elephant in the room is the online casino in South Africa and we must sharpen our spears. Any one of us can log on at night and place hundreds of bets. I know I do.” Louw went on to state that the US and Australia are two countries who do not allow online gambling but they are also two of the countries that have the most online gamblers. For Louw, this just shows prohibition of online gambling just does not work.
The commission went on to recommend that South Africa use Italy as a model for their own online gambling regulation. This would mean that South Africa would offer a small amount of online gambling licenses in a bundle with advertising rights.
Banks would then enforce the gambling laws in South Africa and they would withhold transactions at online gambling sites that do not have e the proper gambling license. As of right now, Jacques Smalle and Tim Harris both DA MPs are calling for regulations to be finalized this week. It will be interesting to see what South Africa decides to do and hopefully they will decide to go with the flow and start offering online gambling.
