ABC News reported earlier this week that a lawsuit was filed by players who played the table games at the Seminole Casinos in Florida. The suit was filed against the three companies that provide games for the tribal casinos. The tribe was the target of the suit but now the companies are the target. Attorney Mike Trentalange is the acting lawyer in the case and he has commented that his clients have lost money while playing blackjack and other table games at the casinos.
The State Supreme Court ruled the compact that the tribe and the governor Charlie Crist are invalid due to Crist not having the authority to agree to the deal without legislative approval. The attorney says that the table games are illegal at the casinos because of this.
If the games are considered illegal than the winnings earned from the games are a result of illegal gambling and then the clients of Trentalange deserve to have their bets refunded, this is of course what Trentalange says. The lawyer is pursuing action against the companies that make the table games possible for the Seminole Tribe.
Tribal lawyers have responded to the lawsuit by saying that the compact was sealed by its inclusion in the Federal Register and that only federal authorities have jurisdiction over the compact. They say the gambling options are not illegal and the court has no authority to void the compact.
