Most times a trip to the casino is a fun experience. However, sometimes when alcohol or emotions are involved a fun experience can turn dangerous even deadly. Players can get out of control and a friendly situation can become heated and elevated. That is exactly what happened a Delaware casino this week. A New Jersey man was visiting the Delaware Park Casino in Wilmington when he got into a fight with a man over a seat at the blackjack table. It is unclear as to why the two men were arguing over the seat but what happened after is very clear.
The perpetrator, Edwin Mitchell, began arguing with the victim over the seat at the blackjack table and they continued to argue outside the casino. It was outside about 11:30pm that the argument escalated and Mitchell punched the victim in the face.
The police report of the incident state that Mitchell went on to strike the victim four more times. The additional hits caused the victim to fall down and strike his head on the sidewalk which was made of concrete. The victim was taken to the hospital and he remains there in critical condition.
The attacker was taken into custody by security at the casino and he was later arrested. Mitchell was charged with assault and is awaiting a court date. This instance just goes to show how a simple incident can quickly get out of hand. You never know who you are dealing with and it is best to involve casino security if needed so an instance like this can be avoided.
