Minors are never supposed to enter onto the casino floor in the United States and they are also never supposed to gamble. However sometimes minors will slip past security and manage to gamble a little before they get caught and sometimes they get away. Recently a casino in New Jersey had to pay stiff fines for minors gambling on their casino floor. The New Jersey Casino Control Commission fined the Showboat Casino a total of $20,000 for several incidents of underage gambling. The minors were able to purchase gaming chips as well as gamble at the Showboat casino, which is illegal.
There were two incidents that took place at the casino. The first incident happened in September 2009 when a nineteen year old man was able to purchase chips and play blackjack for an hour. Another incident at the Showboat Casino involved three people who purchased poker chips. The problem in this instance was that the people were between the ages of sixteen and twenty one.
So now because minors were caught at the casino, the Commission has decided the punishment for the casino not monitoring their floor well. The casino must pay the fine of $20,000 which is not a low amount. I’m sure the casino has changed the way they run security and dealers and employees have been briefed on how to be aware of minors in the casino. Hopefully this type of instance will not happen again so the casino does not have to pay such a large fine again.
Along with the $20, 00, the casino gave the commission just over $2,000 which had been taken from people who had signed up on the self-exclusion list but they entered into the casino and played anyway. The list was created to help compulsive gamblers from being allowed to enter the casino.
