In most states, it is illegal to leave one’s child in a vehicle unattended. There is the possibility that the child could be taken out of the vehicle by a stranger as well as the possibility that the child could suffer from heat exhaustion from staying in the car for a long period of time. A parent caught leaving their child in a vehicle can earn jail time as well as other charges. The Parx Casino in Pennsylvania has seen several parents arrested for leaving their children in the vehicle unattended. Several parents, both moms and dads, have been caught leaving their children in the car at the Parx casino to go gamble. Most times, the parents are wanting to get in a quick hand of blackjack or other table game and they think their children will be ok for just ten or fifteen minutes. However, for a gambler, ten or fifteen minutes can turn into hours if they get on a hot streak or manage to lose money.
The children are sitting in the vehicle while their parents are gambling and most times they are spotted by other patrons or the security team at the casino. The police are then alerted by those who spotted the children and when the parent was found, they would then be arrested. The children are usually taken down to the police station and sometimes they are sent to DHR or some other government
facility.
In the past three months, there have been two arrests at the Parx Casino in Pennsylvania for leaving a child in the car unattended. Both of these players went inside the casino to play blackjack and both ended the night arrested. Each story of child endangerment ends up in the news, so one would think that people would learn not to leave their child in the vehicle to go gamble but apparently that is not the case.
