A democratic senator in Maryland recently introduced a bill into legislation that would legalize table games such as blackjack and poker at casinos in the state. Senator Katherine Klausmeier sent in a new bill just a few weeks ago in the hopes that blackjack, roulette, poker and other table games will soon be available for residents of the state. If the measure is passed it would help the state to offer the same types of games as surrounding states casinos. Other states around Maryland already offer such table games so residents of the state have to go elsewhere to enjoy a game of blackjack or poker.
Klausmeier commented: “We need everyone to come to our facilities. The young, the old and the in between.” She stated that her push for new table game legislation is in its ‘infant steps’. The bill must be passed and then approved by voters next year before the table games could be added to local casinos.
The state of Maryland just approved casinos back in 2008 and only two of the five in the state are in operation. The governor, Martin O’Malley, wants to see all of the casinos in operation before they consider changing in gaming rules.
However others think the casinos should be ready to offer the table games. This is not the first time someone has put forth table gaming legislation. Back in 2010, Senator Catherine Pugh introduced a measure that would allow table games as well. Her measure did not get very far as the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee nixed it.
Hopefully the bill created by Klausmeier will go further and allow casinos to offer such games. It will help the state in many ways as well as make regular gamblers very happy.
