Phuong Quoc Truong was sentenced to seventy months in prison on Monday for his role in the conspiracy to cheat United States and Canadian casinos with his blackjack and mini-baccarat scheme. Truong has to forfeit nearly three million dollars and repay almost six million dollars to several casinos that he defrauded. Truong was found guilty of having setting up the Tran Organization which was based in San Diego. The organization would bribe casino card dealers and supervisors to help them with the cheating scheme. The organization targeted blackjack and mini-baccarat games and involved false shuffles. This would create groups of unshuffled cards that the members of the organization could bet on successfully as they knew the order in advance.
The justice Department commented: “By doing so, members of the conspiracy allegedly repeatedly won thousands of dollars during card games, including winning several hundred thousand dollars on one occasion. Members of the organization used sophisticated mechanisms for tracking the order of cards during games, including hidden transmitter devices and specially created software that would predict the order in which cards would reappear during blackjack games."
