In the past the residents of Maine have voted against the construction of a casino in the state. However this past week, voters made a different decision and chose to vote yes for a casino in the state. Fifty one percent of the voters approved the construction of a casino and the proposal of Black Bear Entertainment LLC was approved. Black Bear will be spending $165 million to create a new casino and resort in Oxford, Maine. The casino will not only offer visitors slot games but table games as well. Visitors will be able to play blackjack, craps and many other table games.
The new casino and resort will be able to bring in thousands of jobs into the state as well as bring tens of millions of dollars into Maine as well. The facility is expected to bring in over $60 million dollars in revenue.
Rob Lally an investor of Black Bear commented that he thinks voters saw that if they voted yes on the project it would bring in jobs which would help the residents of the state. Those who are against the proposal say that the casino will drain money and jobs from the local economy and create new problems such as gambling addiction and crime increase.
Maine does have a casino, called the Hollywood Slots, located in Bangor. However this casino does not offer table games, they only have slot machines. So the new casino created by Black Bear will be a welcome change to gamblers in the state.
The project will start out with the casino, restaurant, bar and café and then over the next five years a resort will be added as well as a lounge, spa and more restaurants.
