Currently North South Wales gaming clubs are only allowed to install a certain number of casino style gaming machines and the number of games allowed is very low. The reason the government limited the options for the clubs was to keep them from offering a full casino to their customers. However, things are about to change.Barry O’Farrell the state opposition leader recently signed a memorandum of understanding that will remove the limitations on installing multiple terminal gaming machines in clubs. The memorandum of understanding is being included in a larger deal in New South Wales which will cut the pokie taxes. A pokie tax is a tax on slot machines. The deal will also require the state coalition to pay millions of dollars to the Sydney Star Casino for compensation.
Like any other change in government, there are those that are opposed to the plan. Premier Kristina Kenealy part of the Labor government commented that the plan is going to lead to ‘an explosion of electronic roulette and blackjack gaming in the New South Wales suburbs.” The Labor government believes the coalition is trying to build mini casinos all across New South Wales.
If the deal is passed then the clubs across New South Wales will be able to offer more games like blackjack and roulette which is a move that will certainly make gamblers very happy. So citizens will just have to wait and see if the deal is going to go through and they will have more games or if the deal will be dismissed and gaming will go on as normal.
