When people hear of Las Vegas, many associate it with casinos like the Frontier Casino. Until now that is. Earlier this morning, the casino imploded when over 1.100 pounds of carefully placed explosives detonated and turned the building to ashes. The big boom marked the end of a legendary era and the beginning of something much bigger. The 16-story hotel was the first casino in Las Vegas to come with a theme that would be seen both in and outside of the building. It was also where Elvis Presley had his premiere in Vegas. Needless to say, Frontier Casino will be remembered as one of the most influential casinos in the world. But all things eventually come to an end, and with over 65 years on its back, this part of the Strip needs a big change.
Perhaps big is an understatement. Elad Group and Yitzhak Tshuva have partnered up to build an $8 billion super resort. Named The Plaza, this is the perhaps boldest of all ongoing constructions in Las Vegas. The Plaza will facilitate 3.500 rooms or so with dozens of exclusive shops and, of course, a Plaza branded casino.
The Frontier was one of the last remaining aged casinos on the Strip. Earlier this year, Stardust was literally turned to dust when it was demolished to leave room for its replacement.
