Home casinos are illegal especially if the home owner is making a profit. Many times friends and family get together to play blackjack or poker but they do not take a cut from the money wagered. However there are some people who want to make a profit and this is exactly what happened in Memphis, Tennessee recently, on a very large scale.Joe McKenzie of Memphis was arrested recently after police raided his home and found that he was running a casino from his home. McKenzie had blackjack tables, poker tables as well as dice and slot machines. Gamblers would come to McKenzie’s home and wager on the games and he would then take his cut.
Police in Memphis found out about McKenzie’s operation and they raided the home this past week. They seized the gambling machines and tables and when they arrived at the home they found that there was gambling going on as one woman was playing one of the games.
McKenzie was questioned by officers and he told them that he was making around $1,000 a week from operating the casino. He allowed around fifteen to twenty five people in his home at one time to play the games he had available.
McKenzie was arrested on Thursday and he was charged with aggravated gambling promotion. It was the Organized Crime Unit that raided his home after obtaining a search warrant. The operation was busted and McKenzie is currently behind bars.
