Counterfeit money pops up in any industry especially in the gambling industry. The most recent instance of this happening occurred at the Morongo Casino located in Riverside County. Movses Dermishyan age twenty two was arrested this past week for trying to pass counterfeit money at the blackjack tables. Dermishyan was sitting at the high stakes blackjack tables at the Morongo Casino located in Riverside County when he tried to pass the fake currency. The gambler said he had only five $100 bills when he was approached by a deputy but police later found another $2,100 in fake cash on his person.
The security officials at the casino contacted the sheriff’s department around four in the afternoon once a casino employee noticed that four of the five $100 bills the gambler held had the same serial number. The United States Secret Service has been called in to try and figure out where the counterfeit bills were created.
The Secret Service feels as though the bills may have been manufactured in the Simi Valley or the San Fernando Valley. They feel that the bills may be tied to an Armenian counterfeit ring which is a large operation in Los Angeles.
Dermishyan was arrested on the spot and was charged with the suspicion of possession of counterfeit currency as well as burglary and a parole violation. Dermishyan was released from prison after he posted the $5,000 bail that was set.
