The island of Fiji has never offering their residents a casino. Gamblers have had to go elsewhere to enjoy casino games but now the government is looking into building the first ever casino on the island. Currently the government is looking for developers who might like to be involved in the project. Those who are interested in creating the new casino have until the end of the month to be considered for involvement.
The Tourism and Trade Minister Aiyaz Sayad Khaiyum announced the decision a few weeks ago to add a casino to the island. He commented the deadline is so short due to the fact that the government wants to see a fast response from any potential international developers.
The government would like to look into those who are interested and assess if they would be the right person/persons for the job before they make their final decisions. The government has not yet stated as to what type of casino they would like to open.
The possibilities are vast as the island could open a casino with just slot games or they could offer just table games like blackjack and poker. The island could decide to open a full fledge casino and offer all games such as blackjack, poker, roulette, baccarat, slots and much more.
However there are some on the island who are against the new proposal for opening the first casino in the area. The National Council of Women in Fiji have commented they are worried that gambling and the sex trade may become one and make it worse for women and children to be exploited. Because of these statements the Fijian government has stated they will be monitoring the social impact of the new casino and new gambling laws would be set up to protect the community especially women and children.
