The Seminole tribe in Florida will now be able to offer the game of blackjack at five of their casinos now that the federal government has signed their new deal into law. The tribe was finally able to come to an agreement with the government that would see the tribe offering the game of blackjack until 2014. Mitchell Cypress the chairman of the Seminole tribe commented: “Sometimes it takes a long journey to reach your goal, and it means more when you finally get there.” And it did take a long time for a deal to come to fruition. The tribe and the governor of Florida had come to two previous agreements but they were rejected during the legislative process.
But now a deal has been agreed upon and it is reportedly worth $1 billion dollars. Blackjack and other table games can now be seen at the five Seminole casinos. The tribe also gets exclusive rights to slot machines in Florida except in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
The tribal government will be paying the state $150 million in the first year and then they will pay out over $230 million in the next three years. Florida will be earning nice compensation for the deal as they will take in revenues of up to 25% if the fiscal goals are reached by the casinos now that they are offing the games.
