The state of Delaware will now become the first state in the US to offer online gambling legally. The governor recently approved legislation that will allow the state to offer online gambling sites that provide full service betting options from slots to roulette, blackjack and poker. Jack Markell, the governor of the state, signed the Delaware Gaming Competitiveness Act of 2012 just a few days ago and now the state will be able to offer the gambling options. Proponents of the bill agreed that the new measure will help the casino industry in the state which is currently facing stiff competition in surrounding states. Markell stated: “We’re talking about a couple thousand jobs. The competitive landscape for this industry has changed dramatically.”
Residents of the state will now be able to enjoy blackjack, slots and other casino games from the Delaware online casino site. The Lottery Office will be controlling the site and they will be offering lottery tickets as well.
Delaware is hoping to get the ball rolling and begin offering online gambling options by 2013. They will also be working to offer their gambling options via mobile devices such as Smartphone’s and mobile tablets.
Delaware will be the only state to offer online gambling options as well as lottery ticket sales online. Other states in the US already offer lottery tickets online and the state of Nevada is working toward online poker but Delaware will be the only state to offer the full spectrum of online gambling.
"We can help protect the jobs and this revenue source for our state," said Senate President Pro Tem Anthony DeLuca, the lead Senate sponsor of the bill. "We can keep Delaware at the forefront of developing new and better gambling options.”
