The Crown Casino in Australia has changed the rules when it comes to blackjack at the casino and many are none too happy about it. The casino has changed their odds at the blackjack tables from 6-4 to 6-5 on the $5 and $10 tables. Essentially this means that players who hit a blackjack will get less money. For example: if a player hits a blackjack on a $100 bet then that player would win just $120 instead of the usual $150. Many experts in the field of gambling say that the casinos are going to earn a lot more money as players are going to be dishing a lot more out.
Ron Parsons the owner of the teaching school CasinoBusters commented: “If you’re not a professional gambler you might as well hand in your wallet at the reception desk when you arrive.”
The Crown has imposed another rule change that requires blackjack dealers to ‘hit’ on ‘soft 17’ which means the house gets a final chance to win instead of paying out players holding cards at values of 18-21.
Parsons also stated: “None of these measures apply in the VIP high-roller rooms because they would never get away with it. The Asian high-rollers would head home in their droves. It’s all designed to rip off the inexperienced player.”
Despite the backlash from experts, Gary ONeill a spokesman for the Crown Casino commented that the latest rule change was approved by the Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation. He stated: “They have given approval for the game to proceed and the odds are clearly displayed on the tables.”
