Mount Airy Casino in North Carolina has been offering blackjack tournaments for two months now with buy-ins of $100. Now the casino has decided to up the ante and has raised buy-ins to $525 with $500 going toward the prize pool. The $25 left over will go toward fees of the tournament. The larger buy-in is expected to draw in even more players since more cash is up for grabs! Chris Bastian is the manager of the poker room at the casino and he has been put in charge of the blackjack tournaments. Bastian has stated that the most players they have had competing in a blackjack tournament are one hundred and twenty. The tournament has three rounds of play and they are looking to have one hundred players competing.
If the tournament hits the one hundred and twenty mark, six players would be competing at each blackjack table. The winner of each table would then advance to the next round with four players who are selected at random as wild card players. The first round of play takes place tonight and the next round will kick off tomorrow.
Once the number of entries into the tournament has been confirmed the casino will be able to determine how many first round tables will be needed as well as wild-card players. During the first two rounds of play, the players will be competing in twelve hands. The betting will be rotated and those who go first will be rotated as well.
In the tournament players will be given 2,500 chips and they will be able to wager 100 to 2500 per hand. After the first two rounds, the semi finals will take place and they will begin on Saturday at 2pm. All of the players that make it to the finals will win prize money and the final table will play full shoe to determine the winner, who will get forty five percent of the prize pool.
