Over in Australia the Federal Police have been investigating a cocaine trafficking network that has reached international proportions. Police have found that professional blackjack players and poker players are involved in the network. Melbourne magistrates have already charged several players with trafficking cocaine. The players charged in the case are top poker pros as well as blackjack players. The players who have been charged are: David Saab, Darren Francis Hughes and Robert Alan Remeeus. The players stayed quiet during their hearing and they also have declined to talk with investigators involved in the case.
The players were caught with a large amount of cocaine. Around 22 kilograms were found and it is worth over $4 million AUD. The cocaine was a high grade and was found in machinery parts that were shipped to Vancouver, Canada. The players had collected the packages full of drugs before the join narcotics task force made arrests in the case.
The players are called the SAAB Squad and they are known all over the world as poker players, blackjack players, hustlers at casinos, and just all around gamblers. The players compete in large tournaments at casinos mainly in the United States and Europe. David Saab is the leader of the group and is known for his high stake play. He has competed in the WSOP and even finished in forty sixth place.
It has been reported that all three men were involved in organized crime in Australia which is linked to Colombian FARC rebels. It is believed the group formed a link with FARC when they played high stakes games in casinos that are located underground all around the globe. However this is a rumor and has not yet been confirmed.
