The Hamels Foundation which was created by Cole and Heidi Hamels to help children by giving them the tools they need to reach any goals they may have and empower themselves. The foundation recently held a casino and poker night which helped raise $10,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks. The event was called Diamond in the Rough and over three hundred people gathered in the Diamond Room to attend the event. Attendees were able to play craps, roulette, blackjack, Texas hold’em while enjoying cocktails and appetizers.
There was also music playing at the event and visitors could bid on items in the silent auction. There was also a raffle that players could enter to win prizes. The event was able to raise $10,000 and this will go toward the local Big Brothers Big Sisters.
The goal of the Hamels Foundation is to provide support for education in the inner city of Philadelphia as well as Springfield. They also are trying to establish a school in Malawi, Africa. Katie Davis the executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks commented:
“We feel honored that the Hamels Foundations choose Big Brothers Big Sisters as the beneficiary for this year’s event. They have been wonderful to work with and are truly dedicated to serving children in our community.”
The Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks has been able to help many children especially last year. In 2009 the group was able to help over 1,300 children by providing them with a mentor. Mentors are able to help the children by being a positive influence in their lives.
