The Tropicana is a casino located in Atlantic City and reports recently showed that the casino was down over $1 million at the blackjack tables due to one really good gambler. Casinos normally take in anywhere from ten to fifteen percent of the chips players buy at blackjack tables but the take was down quite a bit after the mystery gambler had his way at the blackjack tables at the Tropicana. While other casinos in Atlantic City did quite well at their blackjack tables, the Tropicana lost over $1.86 million dollars at the blackjack tables. According a State Casino Control Commission spokesman Daniel Heneghan the loss suffered by the Tropicana is the worst since the state started offering casino gambling back in the seventies.
Mark Giannantonio is the outgoing CEO of the Tropicana and he commented in the Press of Atlantic City that the casino lost over $5 million to the blackjack gambler. The identity of the gambler has yet to be revealed but apparently he is very good at the game.
The loss of the Tropicana is very surprising but not unusual for casinos. Since they try to bring in high rollers they are eventually going to have a high roller come in that wins and then they will lose money, it’s inevitable. It will be interesting to see if the blackjack player continues to rule Atlantic City or will he move on to Las Vegas or another area, or take a break from the tables. Hopefully the Tropicana can recover from this loss and build their take back up.
