The Advertising Standards Authority in the UK has banned a television advertisement which involves the game of blackjack. The ad was created by GameAccount Global Ltd and Casinorip and it was complained on by the public. The ad was for an online gambling service and it showed a man and woman joining a casino table to play blackjack. The voice over on the commercial stated: “Everyone loves to play Blackjack. But if you play against the casino, it’s the casino that always wins.”
The couple then looked stressed as the croupier took all the chips and then the screen showed the text: “Dealer Wins again”. The man then lost his shirt and looked embarrassed while the voice over said “if you play against real people, there’s less chance of you losing your shirt”.
The complaint made by viewers was the ad misleads people to think that players are more likely to win with the advertiser than a regular casino. The claim also stated that the ad was misleading because the house does not always win.
GameAccount responded to the complaint but the ASA still decided to ban the advertisement from the airwaves.
